Speeding in Bristolwood

(<: OUR PEDESTRIAN FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD :>)

Bristolwood has had an increase in speeding reports from our members. We are proud to be a pedestrian friendly neighborhood and we’re committed to reducing the incidents of speeding on our street. This includes working with Chula Vista Police Department and fostering an education plan about speeding for our members.

Did you know that the entire length of La Costa Ave measures less than four tenths (.4) of a mile? If you travel from one end of La Costa Ave to the other at the posted 15 MPH limit, it will take exactly 1 minute and 36 seconds. Increasing the speed to 25 MPH reduces the total travel time by only 30 seconds but will double the required stopping distance of your vehicle.
Here’s a quick chart that shows the total time versus stopping distance at various speeds:
SPEED (MPH) TOTAL TIME TO TRAVEL
LA COSTA AVE BREAKING DISTANCE
15 MPH 1 minute, 36 seconds 44 feet
20 MPH 1 minute, 12 seconds 63 feet
25 MPH 0 minute, 57 seconds 85 feet
30 MPH 0 minute, 48 seconds 109 feet
35 MPH 0 minute, 41 seconds 136 feet
40 MPH 0 minute, 36 seconds 164 feet

44 feet is the average width of our front yards. 164 feet is about the distance of one of the islands. Traveling the posted limit is not only the law but shows our commitment and care for our neighbors, pets and visitors.
Let’s work together to eliminate speeding in our community.

  1. No Speeding, please! Thanks to a joint effort with the Masters Collection board of directors, Bristolwood has been able to curb some speeding in our neighborhood. If you observe speeding or reckless driving on our street please send an email or letter to Jessica McKenzie at PMC or call in the incident. Together we can tackle this problem and make a safer street for everyone. Neighbors have been diligent in reporting these incidences and we are able to act on the complaints and affect change. Thank you for driving slowly on La Costa Ave. Your example is appreciated!
